"Salamandra" company is a Film Laboratory specializing in ECN2 process (color negative film developing according to the Eastman Kodak technology), preparation for video-recording, negative cutting, film prints, Telecine services as well as the services of Computer Graphics and no-linear video editing division.

"Salamandra" is the first Film Laboratory in Russia, which participated in Kodak Image Care certification program. During one year Salamandra Company has been controlling by Kodak engineers. After one year of chemistry test control Salamandra Company has taken the international certificate, which confirms the high quality standards of negative processing according to the Kodak technology.

The Telecine suite of "Salamandra" is a joint project with Kodak.

The first information about this project was printed in Daily News - the daily newspaper of IBC'98 exhibition in Amsterdam. The Spirit DataCine was launched at NAB 1996, and almost immediately became the new benchmark for high quality standard definition film transfers.

The opening of the new Telecine facility in Russia was described in details in Western media by Kodak and Philips. The informational articles about this project was printed in such magazines as INCAMERA, VIDEO AGE, CUTS and also in Russian magazine "Cinema and TV technique".

The Telecine of Salamandra is equipped with high resolution film-scanner Spirit Datacine 2000 (Philips) and color corrector Pogle Platinum (Pandora). The video recording could be done from 16/35mm negative or positive films to Betacam SP and Digital Betacam formats. It is possible to make the synchronous Mono and Dolby Stereo A&SR sound recording from optical film track and from DAT cassette. The system configuration also includes the following units: VS4 - Noise Reducer intended for noise & grain reduction, scratch & dirt concealment, Still Store - which allows to store a lot of information about colour correction and to compare different shots to each other. The Aaton Key Link system, which reads Key-Code of a film and allows to record it at Betacam tape for further negative cutting purposes.

Today such a Telecine equipment is a leader in scanning and color correction technologies. Using it you can produce a high quality Master cassette for TV or further duplication.

Computer Graphics and Non-linear Video Editing division offers special video effects, color correction, composing, video and cinematic material cleanup, titres design. Division is capable of input/output from/to Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, VHS, CD-ROM, CD Audio, CD-RW, DVD, DLT 7000, DAT, DAT Audio. We work with uncompressed D1 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 video footage. The main capabilities are:

 

  • storyboard composing (EDL CMX 3600 or keycode passport)
  • color correction, including multi-layer correction with separate colors keying or region masking
  • titres design and production, typography animation, composing of video, 3D and 2D graphics and sound
  • material cleanup: dust and scratches removal from video footage, correction of dropped lines for Betacam SP, noise reduction, despeckle and grain removal for film footage
  • shaking camera stabilization
